The former sheriff’s office deputy charged with sexually assaulting an inmate at a South Texas jail has pleaded not guilty.
A jury of six women and three men found James D. Hart guilty of kidnapping, sexual assault, forcible sodomy, rape and aggravated battery in February.
The jury deliberated about eight hours before returning its verdict.
Hart, a former deputy sheriff for the sheriff’s department in Johnson County, is accused of sexually assaulting the inmate in April 2016.
He is also accused of abusing other inmates.
A Texas judge will sentence Hart on Thursday.
